The Eclipse Project (NASA SP-2000-4523, Tom Tucker, 2000)
NASA History Division monograph, 179 pages, on a Dryden flight research program that tested towing as a way to launch rockets, with Tucker's narrative and the program's working documents.

Tom Tucker's monograph, number 23 in NASA's Monographs in Aerospace History series, covers a flight research effort at the Dryden Flight Research Center on towing as a way of launching rockets. The work was done with a small company the text calls KST. The catalogue data printed at the front of the book files it under rocket launching and under towing research. KST began in 1995 with a Phase I small business grant for a feasibility study on paper, and the idea reached flight in six tow tests between December 1997 and February 1998.
The foreword says that whatever the eventual outcome, the project 'was a unique and interesting experiment that deserves to be recorded.' The book is built to that end: Tucker's narrative runs first, and the working documents of the program follow it.
