The American Cemetery in Margraten holds 8,300 U.S. service members killed in World War II. In spring 2025, the American Battle Monuments Commission removed two displays from the visitor center that recognized Black soldiers. The decision prompted objection in the cemetery's guestbook. This FOIA release contains the correspondence: emails within ABMC, with other agencies, and with the White House surrounding the removal. It documents institutional decision-making in real time: what reasoning was offered internally, who was consulted, how objections were handled. The record captures a controversy at a military cemetery and the interagency process that led to the removal of historical commemoration.
